The House of Representatives has made a resolution to form a committee that will investigate the recurring terrorist attacks in Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom Local areas of Plateau State.

This decision was reached following a motion of urgent public importance jointly moved by Rep. Ishaya David Lalu and Rep. Dalyop Fom Chollom during Tuesday’s plenary.

In presenting the motion, the lawmakers highlighted an attack on the people of Mangu LGA on January 24, 2024, resulting in the death of more than 50 individuals and serious injuries to others. Additionally, they reported that over 1,000 houses and properties worth billions of naira were destroyed, leading to the displacement of about 20,000 people in various internally displaced persons (IDP) camps within and outside the area.

The legislators emphasized the urgent need to address the continuous terrorist attacks in the mentioned LGA. The House called on the Chief of Defence Staff to establish a civilian joint task force in Plateau state. It mandated the Committees on Defence and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance. These committees are expected to provide the House with a weekly report until the security situation is controlled.
