The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cote d’Ivoire 2023 has entered the quarter-final stage following Tuesday’s conclusion of the round of 16 fixtures. The intense clashes in the previous round have set the stage for thrilling encounters as eight teams vie for a spot in the semi-finals.

Angola secured their place in the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 3-0 victory over Namibia, setting up a clash with Nigeria. The Super Eagles triumphed over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon with a 2-0 win, and they now face a formidable challenge from Angola’s Palancas Negras on Friday at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan at 6.00 p.m.

In another quarter-final matchup, DR Congo, who clinched a narrow victory against Egypt via a penalty shootout, will face Guinea, who eliminated Equatorial Guinea with a surprising 1-0 win.

Monday’s late penalty secured Cape Verde’s spot in the quarter-finals, where they will meet Mauritania. Hosts Cote d’Ivoire advanced after a dramatic penalty shootout (5-4) against defending champions Senegal and will face Mali in their quarter-final clash.

Tuesday’s last round of 16 ties saw Mali defeat Burkina Faso 2-1, earning them a place in the quarter-final against the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire. South Africa emerged victorious against the Atlas Lions of Morocco with a 2-0 win, setting up a quarter-final clash against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde.

The quarter-final matches are scheduled from Feb. 2 to Feb. 3, featuring exciting matchups that promise intense football action. The full list of quarter-final fixtures and venues is as follows:

Friday:

  • Nigeria vs Angola (Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan at 6.00 p.m.)
  • DR Congo vs Guinea (Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe at 9.00 p.m.)

Saturday:

  • Mali vs Côte d’Ivoire (Stade de la paix Bouake at 6.00 p.m.)
  • Cape Verde vs South Africa (Stade Charles Konan Banny de Yamoussoukro at 9.00 p.m.)
