Nigeria have booked a place in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast after defeating their football arch rival South Africa.

The Super Eagles edged out the Bafana Bafana in a frenetic and pulsating semi-final clash on Wednesday.

In a match that offered little by way of goals, both team had to rely on penalty find the back of the net during regular time which ended a goal apiece.

Ekong gave Nigeria the lead from a spot kick after Osimhen was brought down in the box, but parity was restored after South Africa had a penalty of their own in the dying minutes of the game after a clumsy challenge from Yusuf left Percy Tau on the deck.

The match went to extra time and then penalty shoot out which Nigeria won by 4 – 2.
