Armed herdsmen wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s middle belt state of Benue have struck again.

The herders on Thursday attacked Ikobi community in Apa LGA of the State and reportedly killed four persons.

Many locals were also injured during the Thursday night attack.

A local, Mr Ameh Amodu, who witnessed the onslaught, disclosed that the initial attempt by the assailants to attack the community was thwarted by soldiers.

He said the bandits however regrouped and successfully launched the attack by entering the community through the outskirts which are surrounded by hills.

They killed four persons and injured others, Amodu said.

“The area is surrounded by hills, and that was how they took the people unawares. Armed herdsmen are the ones who killed them.

“They patrol with their cows and drop their warriors who are attacking the people unexpectedly. Last year, they attacked the community and that is what we are seeing again,” he said.

Barrister Eche Akpoko, the chairman of Apa Development Association, an umbrella body of the Apa people, confirmed that four bodies have been recovered.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Catherine Anene said she has no information about the incident
