  • Dr. Ochogwu urged authorities to take decisive actions to tackle the escalating insecurity

In a recent statement, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) highlighted the critical impact of Nigeria’s current insecurity on its ability to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, the Director-General of IPCR, conveyed this concern during the 7th International Conference on Love and Tolerance in Nigeria. Emphasizing the theme, “Harmony through Compassion: Embracing Diversity in Pursuit of Peace,” held in Abuja.

Dr. Ochogwu urged authorities to take decisive actions to tackle the escalating insecurity.

He stressed the necessity for Nigerians to foster love and tolerance for sustainable development and peaceful coexistence, citing global security and developmental challenges.

“Nigeria grapples with heightened tension and violent confrontations due to the mismanagement of diversity in religious and cultural practices,” Dr. Ochogwu remarked.

He attributed this to corrupt political leaders promoting nepotism, tribalism, and marginalization, exacerbating diversity management issues. Consequently, Nigeria falls short of harnessing the potential of diversity, hindering SDG achievement.

Dr. Ochogwu underscored the urgent need for concrete action to address this setback, emphasizing the pivotal role of peace and security stakeholders.

Mr. Emrah Ilgen, President of Ufuk Dialogue, echoed similar sentiments, advocating for education and open conversations to combat prejudice and discrimination.

Representing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Usman Bello emphasized Nigeria’s cosmopolitan nature, urging a collective effort to promote tolerance and compassion for achieving divine intentions.
