  • In December, Minister Heineken Lokpobiri had stated that production was around 1 million barrels per day, steadily rising to 1.4 million

Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), revealed that the country’s crude oil production has surged to 1.8 million barrels per day, a significant increase from the previous estimate of 900,000 barrels.

Ribadu shared this information during a Senate appearance alongside service chiefs and other security heads, discussing the nation’s security challenges.

In December, Minister Heineken Lokpobiri had stated that production was around 1 million barrels per day, steadily rising to 1.4 million. The country had set 1.7 million bpd as the benchmark to achieve its 2024 budget of N27.5 trillion.

The NSA said the increase in the production of crude oil was as a result of “kinetic and non-kinetic operations”.

“This nearly doubling of production results from stringent measures against oil theft and criminality, combining non-military intervention and active kinetic measures,” Ribadu was quoted to have said.

The NSA was said to have briefed the upper legislative chamber about the various security operations across the country.
