  • Minister Saidu Alkali highlighted Nigeria’s transportation sector’s environmental impact due to heavy fossil fuel reliance, urging eco-friendly solutions
  • He emphasized the need to modernize transportation systems by transitioning to natural gas and renewable energy sources for sustainability

The Federal Government has highlighted Nigeria’s transportation sector as a significant contributor to environmental pollution, attributing this to the sector’s heavy reliance on fossil fuels and the absence of alternative energy sources.

Addressing attendees at the Executive session of the 18th National Council on Transportation Conference in Abeokuta, Minister of Transportation, Senator Saidu Alkali, underscored the urgent need to transition towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions across the country.

Alkali emphasized the imperative of modernizing Nigeria’s transportation systems by embracing green manufacturing and industrialization, particularly transitioning to natural gas and other renewable energy sources.

“The transportation sector’s heavy reliance on fossil fuels and lack of alternative energy options have led to environmental pollution, fuel price volatility, and other socio-economic challenges,” noted the minister.
