  • The command called on members of the public to disregard the video

The Niger State Police Command says a purported video making the rounds on social media insinuating a food blockade on some parts of the country is misleading

In the video, a throng of trucks laden with foodstuff and other edibles line a stretch of the highway at Kara-Jebba, Mokwa, Niger State.

A voice in the background in the video, was heard saying the trucks who were heading to other parts of the country, especially the south, from the north were stopped from doing so.

The police have, however, debunked the video, saying it was an old video from about five years ago.

The Niger State police command, in a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun in Minna, said there was no stoppage or blockage of trucks conveying goods or animals from Minna to Kwara State and vice versa.

“It is also very important to state that yesterday, February 16, 2024, at about 9 pm, a Toyota Dyna mini truck with Reg. No. BDG 178 XF conveying cattle to Kwara State had a minor accident at the quarantine checkpoint, Jebba North, and it resulted in evacuating the animal to another vehicle, which caused a little gridlock for a while, and after the evacuation, there was free flow of traffic,” Abiodun stated.

“There was no attempt or outright blockage by any individual or group of persons or agencies at the Kara-Jebba area of Mokwa as insinuated in the video,” he stated.

The command called on members of the public to disregard the video, maintaining that “it is an old video, circulated by mischief makers to cause chaos in the state or the nation.”

The police command enjoined residents in the state to continue their lawful businesses without any fear of molestation
