President Bola Tinubu has announced Nigeria’s preparedness to host the African Central Bank in alignment with the vision outlined in the Abuja Treaty. Speaking at the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, President Tinubu expressed his administration’s commitment to collaborate with the African Union Commission and member states to ensure the successful establishment of the bank by 2028.

Emphasizing the crucial role of solidarity and resolution in addressing Africa’s challenges, President Tinubu underscored the need for a collective effort to overcome obstacles hindering the continent’s progress. He acknowledged external challenges, such as climate change and unfair global trade patterns, while addressing internal issues like coup-instigated autocracies and constitutional manipulations.

President Tinubu highlighted the importance of fostering peace, strength, and unity within West Africa, emphasizing the significance of historical, cultural, and economic ties among the region’s nations. He called for a renewed commitment to building trust and harmony, urging all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue for the betterment of the continent.

Regarding education, the summit’s theme, President Tinubu stressed its pivotal role in finding innovative solutions to Africa’s longstanding challenges. He recognized education as a fundamental tool for empowering individuals and driving socio-economic development across the continent.

In addition, President Tinubu extended an invitation to the Africa Counter-Terrorism Summit scheduled for April 2024 in Abuja. The summit aims to broaden discussions beyond military and law enforcement strategies, focusing on addressing the root causes of violent extremism, including poverty, political disenfranchisement, and the propagation of extremist ideologies.

President Tinubu’s remarks underscore Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation, economic development, and peacebuilding efforts within Africa.
