  • Oluchi Oparah files lawsuit against Labour Party’s national chairman and EFCC, urging investigation into financial scandal and forgery allegations
  • Oparah seeks nullification of her suspension by LP, alleging lack of fair hearing, and questions EFCC’s obligation to investigate forgery

The financial scandal and allegations of forgery against the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, have taken a new turn as the suspended national treasurer of the party, Oluchi Oparah, has filed a lawsuit against Abure and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). She urges the court to compel the EFCC to investigate the national chairman and the party’s accounts.

She also seeks the court’s intervention to nullify her six-month suspension by the party, arguing that she was not granted a fair hearing before the suspension.

In the suit dated February 15 and filed by her lawyer, Emeka Etiaba (SAN), Oparah questions whether the EFCC is obligated to investigate forgery under its rules.

She further alleges that during the period in question, substantial funds were generated from the sale of nomination forms for various elections held in 2023. Additionally, she claims that proceeds from Edo State in 2024 were diverted by Abure into his accounts, with only N55 million declared out of approximately N3 billion raised.

Oparah asserts that the remaining balance from the sale of nomination forms, as well as donations received from supporters of H.E. Peter Obi, have not been properly accounted for, despite multiple requests for transparency being ignored by Abure.
