  • Abuja Electricity Distribution Company issues 10-day notice to 86 government MDAs to settle N47.1 billion electricity debts or face disconnection
  • Top debtors include Chief of Defence Staff-Barracks, Ministry of FCT, Ministry of Finance, and Niger State Governor’s Abuja Liaison Office

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has issued a 10-day notice to 86 government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to settle their outstanding electricity debts totaling N47.1 billion or face disconnection.

According to an advertorial released by the company, the notice was prompted by the MDAs’ failure to pay their outstanding balances for December.

The advert stated, “The Abuja Electricity Distribution PLC (AEDC) is constrained to do this publication with the details of Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies with long outstanding unpaid bills for services rendered to them through the provision of electricity supply in that our previous attempts to make them honour their obligations have not achieved the desired result.”

It further warned that if the relevant MDAs did not settle their debts within 10 days from the publication date, Wednesday, 28th February 2024, the AEDC would disconnect their services until their obligations were fulfilled.
