Sunday Asefon, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, has declared the establishment of a special committee dedicated to campaigning against social vices in tertiary institutions.

This proactive measure aims to tackle the escalating issues of social vices affecting universities nationwide.

Asefon revealed this initiative in a statement on Sunday, highlighting concerns such as drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime, sexual harassment, and academic dishonesty that impede students’ academic performance and personal development.

“The formation of the special committee underscores a significant commitment of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu to safeguard the future of Nigerian students.

On the committee for the Eradication of Social Vices in Tertiary Institutions (SESV-TI) are Suleiman Kazaure, former director-general of NYSC, and the deputy vice-chancellor of the Nigerian Army University Biu, as the chairman.

Others are Maxwell Okoye as secretary, Jerry Ugokwe, a professor of Legislative Studies, Chibudom Nwuche, former Reps deputy speaker, ex-Governor Bala Ngilari, ex-FCT minister of state, Ramat Tijjani, the Archbishop of the African Church Abuja, Bishop Peter Ogunmuyiwa, Abubakar Rimi Jnr, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Timothy Nwachukwu, Ismail Lawanson, Tayyiba Abdulrazak and representatives of security agencies.

The committee’s mandate is to develop and implement comprehensive awareness campaigns, educate students about the dangers of social vices and promote positive values.
