  • Nigerian Army’s 6 Division uncovers one million liters of stolen crude oil in an illegal reservoir in Rivers State
  • Brigadier General EU Effiong reveals the discovery at Odagwa Etche, emphasizing the military’s commitment to eradicating illegal oil operations

The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, stationed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has made a significant discovery, uncovering an illegal oil reservoir containing approximately one million liters of stolen crude oil.

Brigadier General EU Effiong, serving as the Garrison Commander of the Division and Sector 3 Commander of Operation Niger Delta Safe (OPDS), revealed this revelation. He disclosed that the reservoir was located at Odagwa Etche within the Etche local government area of Rivers State.

Effiong explained that following a prior military operation in the community, the illegal operators had relocated and established a new site. Despite their attempts to evade detection, the military’s vigilant efforts led to the discovery of approximately eight reservoirs and five cooking pots filled with crude oil, poised for processing.

Emphasizing the military’s unwavering commitment to eradicating illegal oil activities, Effiong asserted, “We will not relent until all illegal oil operators are rooted out.”

He further cautioned individuals involved in oil theft to reconsider their actions, highlighting their detrimental impact on their future and the broader public. Despite the financial incentives associated with oil bunkering, Effiong underscored its adverse consequences and urged perpetrators to reconsider their actions for the nation’s greater good.

The army’s relentless pursuit of justice in combating illegal oil activities reflects its dedication to upholding national security and safeguarding vital resources.
