Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero reaffirmed that the two-day nationwide protest operates independently of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and its affiliates. Ajaero clarified this in an interview with The Whistler newspaper at the Labour House in Abuja on Tuesday.

The statement follows TUC President Festus Osifo’s remark that TUC members will not participate in the nationwide protest, citing the union’s non-involvement in the plan.

Responding to the TUC decision, Ajaero said, “The TUC is an independent union, not an affiliate of NLC. This protest was decided by the National Executive Council of NLC.

“The turnout is impressive, but we can not conclude because it’s a nationwide protest, and we will take into account reports from 36 states at the end of the protest to decide the way forward.”
