Enugu GOC Lauds NYSC On Youth Mentorship, Skill Acquisition

The GOC also commended the NYSC Director General for his distinctive leadership style, which has significantly transformed the Scheme since his appointment.

HT Dada, general officer commanding (GOC) 82 division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu has applauded the management of the National Youths Service Corp (NYSC) for mentoring corps members on leadership roles and also its provision of skill acquisition training for them in order to become self-reliant.

Eddy Megwa, the director of press at the NYSC headquarters in a statement said Dada gave the commendation when he hosted YD Ahmed, the director general of the NYSC in his office.

Dada described NYSC as a symbol of national unity, adding that the deployment policy of posting corps members outside their state of origin has exposed many graduate youths to know different cultures, values and beliefs of other tribes across the country.

The GOC praised the NYSC director general’s leadership style for positively transforming the scheme, highlighting the self-reliance of many ex-corps members and the positive impact of their service year.

“We have no option we are going to support you,” he said.

The DG expressed gratitude to division officers for their support for NYSC secretariats, he solicited for increased security assistance, particularly through patrols at corps lodges and other areas within its jurisdiction

During his visit to the state orientation camp, he warned corp members against night travel and safety risks, stating that the management has partnered with security agencies for maximum protection.

Christianah Salmwang, the NYSC coordinator in the state told the DG that the relationship between Enugu state secretariat and the state government has been very cordial.

She attributed the success recorded so far during the orientation exercise to the synergy among the entire camp officials.

Salmwang said the corp members comprised a total of 1,573 corps members with a breakdown of 785 males and 788 females.
