Afenifere, the prominent Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, has directed its attention to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that he is duty-bound to facilitate Nigeria’s restructuring, given his alignment with the group’s principles.

Asserting its readiness, Afenifere has unveiled its blueprint for restructuring Nigeria, centring it around the adoption of a parliamentary system of governance.

The disclosure came following a caucus meeting by Afenifere at Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s residence in Isanya Ogbo Ijebu, Ogun State. Notable figures present included Oba Oladipo Olaitan, Deputy Leader of the group, Chief Supo Sonibare, Treasurer, and Chief Mrs Kofoworola Bucknor, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.

Afenifere, recognized as a leading advocate for Nigeria’s restructuring, has diligently gathered stakeholders’ opinions through a dedicated committee.

During Tuesday’s caucus meeting, the panel submitted its comprehensive report, urging the Tinubu-led administration to adopt Afenifere’s proposed blueprint.

Emphasizing Tinubu’s historical involvement in advocating for restructuring, Afenifere underscored his responsibility to uphold the collective aspirations of Nigerians.

Afenifere reminded Tinubu of his integral role in Afenifere’s pursuits and urged him not to waver in the face of this democratic mandate.

Referring to Tinubu’s past legal battles for restructuring during former President Obasanjo’s tenure, Afenifere urged him to continue championing this cause.

Highlighting the significance of its upcoming report, Afenifere outlined its dissemination strategy, emphasizing the need for public awareness and enlightenment.

Afenifere disclosed its proposal for a parliamentary system of government, drawing parallels to Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s successful political endeavours.

By advocating for this system, Afenifere aims to streamline governance processes and reduce campaign expenditures significantly.

Afenifere reiterated its commitment to engaging stakeholders across various regions, signalling the commencement of the Southern and Middlebelt Leaders Forum. It affirmed its intention to present the restructuring blueprint to the National Assembly for consideration and approval, underscoring the imperative of efficient governance for national progress.
