Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo has instructed the Imo Marketing Board (IMB) to initiate the procurement, sale, and distribution of food items at subsidized prices for residents.

This move aligns with the governor’s commitment to providing welfare support amid the petrol subsidy removal, aiming to enhance food security.

Additionally, Uzodinma mandated ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to obtain receipts for their items from the office of the head of service at the state secretariat.

The items include bags of rice, vegetable oil and other stocks.

Recently, there have been protests in some parts of the country over the rising cost of living.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) also called for a two-day mass protest on February 27 and 28 against the economic hardship in the country.

The protest only held on February 27, when the labour body said the aim was already achieved.
