  • House of Representatives directs President Tinubu to intensify security efforts against banditry in 17 LGAs of Katsina State
  • Lawmaker Sada Soli raises concerns over bandit attacks, urging immediate action to address security challenges and protect residents

The House of Representatives has issued a directive to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to instruct security agencies to intensify their efforts in combating bandits’ escalating activities across 17 local government areas (LGAs) in Katsina State.

The decision emerged following a motion presented during plenary by Sada Soli, who expressed deep concern over the severe impact of banditry on the lives and livelihoods of Katsina State residents.

Soli highlighted the dire consequences of bandit attacks, including loss of lives, property destruction, and the frequent abduction of innocent individuals, including men, women, and children.

Expressing disappointment over security agencies’ perceived sluggish response, Soli emphasized the urgent need for immediate and decisive action to address the security challenges ravaging the state.

He called for significantly reinforcing security personnel in the affected communities to combat banditry and effectively restore law and order.

Additionally, Soli raised alarms about the infiltration of armed bandit groups from neighbouring Kaduna and Zamfara states, who are actively seeking to seize control of communities within Katsina State.

The lawmaker expressed apprehension that unless urgent measures are taken to curtail bandits’ activities, Katsina State risks falling prey to criminal elements and jeopardizing the safety and security of its residents across the 17 affected LGAs.
