  • Senator Oluremi Tinubu strongly condemns kidnappers in Nigeria, urging state governments to implement capital punishment for abduction perpetrators
  • She characterizes the abduction as an assault on Nigeria’s future, advocating for severe punishment for the cowardly kidnappers targeting women and children

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, has strongly condemned kidnappers operating in Nigeria, asserting that they deserve the harshest punishment for their inhumane actions.

Speaking during a meeting with the National Women Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja on Friday, the First Lady expressed her dismay over the recent abduction at the LEA primary and secondary school in Kaduna. She urged state governments to implement capital punishment for perpetrators of abduction.

In a press statement released by her Special Adviser on Media, Busola Kukoyi, Senator Tinubu described the abduction as a direct assault on Nigeria’s future, emphasizing the critical role education plays in shaping the nation.

The incident in Kuriga LEA and GSS schools, where approximately 287 pupils and students were abducted by bandits, elicited strong condemnation from President Bola Tinubu, who ordered the Service Chiefs to ensure the victims’ safe release.

Senator Tinubu characterized the kidnappers as cowardly for targeting women and children, labelling their actions as inhumane and deserving of severe punishment.

She stated, “They are cowards. Our hearts bleed… Why can’t they take men of their size? Why are they touching women and children?”

Asserting the importance of safeguarding the nation’s future, Senator Tinubu advocated for capital punishment for those involved in such heinous crimes, emphasizing the need to protect children, whom she described as investments in the nation’s future.

Furthermore, Senator Tinubu underscored her husband’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes women’s empowerment economically, socially, and politically. She encouraged women leaders to play a pivotal role in the nation’s development, emphasizing their significance in grassroots governance and advocating for robust initiatives to uplift women nationwide.

As the country commemorated International Women’s Day, Senator Tinubu celebrated Nigerian women’s courage, resilience, and perseverance, reaffirming her commitment to championing women’s causes through the Renewed Hope Initiative.

“In conclusion, I celebrate International Women’s Day with all Nigerian women for their courage, resilience, and doggedness. The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) is committed to championing women’s causes and implementing various programmes nationwide towards a better life for families,” she added.
