  • Ganduje, APC National Chairman, stresses fostering strong ties with Ghana’s ruling NPP, highlighting shared historical experiences and regional collaboration importance
  • During a meeting in Accra, Ganduje advocates for African political parties to learn from each other to strengthen internal democracy

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighted the significance of fostering a strong relationship with Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking at the NPP headquarters in Accra during a meeting with his Ghanaian counterpart, Mr. Stephen Ayesu Ntim, Ganduje emphasized the shared historical experiences between the two countries and the importance of collaboration between the powerful West African nations.

Ganduje, accompanied by key APC officials, underscored the necessity for African political parties to learn from each other to strengthen internal democracy and improve governance for the continent’s populace.

The visit to Accra was a reciprocal gesture following the NPP leader’s visit to Nigeria in late 2023, symbolizing the deepening ties between the two parties.

Ganduje advocated for intra-party observation during elections in sister countries, proposing a framework for political parties to exchange insights on electoral processes. He believed this would contribute to nurturing democracy across Africa.

Expressing gratitude for the historic moment, Ganduje emphasized the brotherhood between Nigeria and Ghana, aiming to institutionalize the relationship between the ruling parties.

In response, Mr. Ntim commended Ganduje and his delegation for the reciprocal visit and urged both parties to maintain and strengthen their collaboration.

At the meeting, Hackman Owusu Agyeman, Chairman of the Council of Elders, emphasized the urgency of resolving conflicts and insecurity in Africa, with a special mention of Nigeria. Hon. Afenyo Markins, Majority Leader of Parliament, stressed the importance of preserving African values and traditions.

The dialogue between APC and NPP leadership signifies a commitment to regional cooperation and advancing democratic principles in West Africa.
