Ekiti man sent to prison for stabbing mediator to death during fight

  • The incident happened on March 10, in Otun Ekiti, in the Moba Local Government Area of the state.

In Ekiti State, one Tajudeen Olaleye has been remanded in prison over the alleged murder of a mediator during a fight.

An Ekiti State Magistrates’ Court ordered the remand of the 45-year-old man at the Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti.

The incident happened on March 10, in Otun Ekiti, in the Moba Local Government Area of the state.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Yomi Osuolale, told the court on Thursday that the defendant murdered one Mrs Rasaki Taibat.

He said Olaleye stabbed Taibat when the latter attempted to settle a brawl between Olaleye and another person.

“There was a fight between the defendant and someone in the neighbourhood. The deceased tried to mediate between the two parties; in the process, the defendant stabbed her with a bottle, which led to her death.

“The offence contravened Section 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2012,” he said.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, ordered the remand of the defendant at the correctional centre, pending the issuance of legal advice, and adjourned the case till April 25 for mention
