Ramadan: Dangote Feeds 10,000 Daily In Kano, Distributes 1m Bags Of Rice Nationwide

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual, continues his philanthropic efforts during Ramadan by providing meals for 10,000 fasting Muslims daily in Kano, his hometown. Through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, he extends his generosity nationwide, distributing one million bags of rice valued at over N13 billion across Nigeria’s 36 states and Abuja to combat hunger.

This initiative aims to alleviate the economic hardship faced by millions of Nigerians. Additionally, since 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dangote has been distributing 20,000 loaves of bread daily in Kano and 15,000 in Lagos, sustaining a feeding program for residents.

Samira Sanusi, an official of the foundation, explains that the free meals provided during Ramadan include various dishes such as jollof rice, white rice with stew, jollof spaghetti, yam, beans with chicken and beef, accompanied by a bottle of water and a drink for each recipient. These meals are distributed at mosques, streets, prisons, orphanages, and other locations in Kano and its environs.

Musa Maikatako, a beneficiary from Tarauni, expresses gratitude for the assistance, emphasizing how the meal helps him easily break his fast. He highlights the gesture’s significance in alleviating the suffering of individuals who might otherwise have only water to break their fast due to economic hardships.

Another beneficiary, Hajiya Inna Tukur, shares her appreciation for the meal, noting the relief it brings during challenging times. She expresses profound gratitude to Aliko Dangote and his foundation for their generosity, praying for continued blessings and prosperity.

Apart from the ongoing bread distribution program, Sanusi reveals that Aliko Dangote has quietly been feeding the needy in Kano for over 30 years, a tradition initiated from his mother’s residence in Koki and various cooking locations. This longstanding feeding program serves 10,000 residents of Kano daily with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, showcasing Dangote’s enduring commitment to humanitarian efforts.
