Twenty persons who were kidnapped in Edo state have regained their freedom, the police said on Wednesday.

The kidnapped victims were rescued by a team of operatives of the Nigeria Police, military and vigilantes.

The victims were among the 41 passengers abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on March 18, 2024, along Lampese-Ogorimagogo Road in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state.

The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident.

According to him, the armed men accosted four Toyota Hiace buses, kidnapped the occupants and took them into the bush.

Nwabuzor added that the police operatives, in collaboration with the military personnel and vigilantes, immediately swung to action, embarked on a vigorous bush combing exercise and rescued 20 passengers at once.

He said efforts are still ongoing to rescue 21 other passengers who are still in captivity.

DAILY POST learnt that the armed men, suspected to be herders, emerged from the bush and halted the four Toyota Hiace buses at gunpoint before kidnapping their occupants and moving them into the bush
