The Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, has urged the Federal Government to provide support to private universities across the country.

Obi made this appeal on Wednesday during his visit to Madonna University in Elele, Rivers State.

He said, “Government should support private universities in the country because they are doing the work of the government. They should not be charged exorbitantly in the name of Internal Generated Revenue,” he said.

While emphasizing the pivotal role of education in any society, the former Anambra State governor said education is the most vital investment any nation can make for its people.

He charged the government at all levels to partner with private schools in the country beginning from primary school down to tertiary institutions.

He urged Nigerians to pray for leaders to use public funds for the good of the public and not for personal gains.
