  • Dr. Ganduje asserts the South East’s presidential opportunity during Alex Ekwueme’s era, urging alignment with APC for political influence
  • Senator Ubah’s empowerment rally in Nnewi signifies South East’s readiness for mainstream politics, endorsed by Senator Uzodinma and Ganduje

Dr. Umar Abdulahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserted that the South East region had a significant opportunity to claim the presidency when Dr. Alex Ekwueme, a prominent figure from the zone, served as vice president.

At a mega empowerment rally organized by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi, Anambra State, Ganduje stressed the importance of the region aligning with the ruling party to enhance its political influence.

Ganduje recounted the era when Alex Ekwueme, vice president to Shehu Shagari, was strongly considered to succeed him. He suggested that had it not been for the military intervention, Ekwueme could have ascended to the presidency.

Highlighting the significance of political alignment, Ganduje urged the South East to join the APC and elect governors from the party in all five states to eliminate marginalization.

The overwhelming turnout at the empowerment rally signalled, according to Ganduje, the readiness of the South East to engage in mainstream politics. He commended Senator Ifeanyi Ubah for organizing the event and ensuring that attendees received empowerment items.

Addressing the crowd, Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, lauded President Bola Tinubu’s bold decisions to confront longstanding challenges such as fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification. He emphasized the need for representatives to distribute palliatives to alleviate temporary hardships.

In his remarks, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, a gubernatorial aspirant under the APC for 2025, affirmed the commitment of the Anambra people to integrate into mainstream politics by electing an APC governor.
