  • Ratcliffe plans to revamp the managerial role at Manchester United, shifting responsibilities to a head coach amidst broader restructuring
  • Proposed changes include a focus on football matters for the head coach, while the CEO and sporting director handle transfers

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new minority shareholder at Manchester United, reportedly intends to overhaul the managerial role at Old Trafford as part of a broader restructuring effort.

Having assumed control of the football department at the club, Ratcliffe, owner and founder of INEOS, has initiated significant changes behind the scenes.

According to The Telegraph, Ratcliffe, 71, aims to transform the manager’s position into that of a head coach, redistributing certain responsibilities currently held by the manager.

The proposed restructuring entails the head coach focusing exclusively on football while the CEO and sporting director handle transfers and other off-field affairs.

Omar Berrada, recruited from Manchester City, is now the club’s new CEO, while Dan Ashworth is poised to be confirmed as the new sporting director.

Since Erik ten Hag was appointed Manchester United manager in the summer of 2022, he has reportedly wielded a transfer veto.

Amid ongoing speculation about the managerial position, Gareth Southgate, current England head coach, has emerged as a strong candidate.

However, Ten Hag is expected to retain his position as Man United boss until the end of the campaign, with suggestions indicating a possibility of continuing into the next season with the 20-time English champions.
