Former Nigerian Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, alongside other top government officials, including Professor Isa Pantami, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, visited the Embassy of Russia in Abuja to express condolences following the recent attack on a concert hall in a Moscow suburb.

The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack, which Russian authorities reported resulted in the deaths of at least 137 people.

During the visit, Fani-Kayode conveyed sympathy on behalf of Nigeria, emphasizing solidarity with Russia during this challenging time.

“We acknowledge the critical role that you have played in the development of our country… Russia is not alone and has not been alone,” Fani-Kayode affirmed, urging the Russian government to apprehend the perpetrators.

Pantami echoed sentiments of support, extending heartfelt condolences to the President and people of Russia while reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to peace and justice.

In response, Russian Ambassador Alexey Shebarshin disclosed that four suspects had been apprehended near the Ukrainian border, with investigations ongoing under President Vladimir Putin’s supervision.

Expressing gratitude for the visit, Shebarshin emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to combat terrorism.

Other members of the delegation included former Federal Commissioner Senator Basheer Lado Garba Mohammed, Senator Mohammed Hassan, former House of Representatives Member Hon Farouk Adamu Aliyu, and Joseph Onoh, Campaign spokesperson for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
