  • Lukman, a former APC leader, urges party leadership to resolve rift between Kaduna’s El-Rufai and Governor Sani over inherited debts
  • He emphasizes proactive mediation to prevent escalation, citing similar conflicts in other APC-led states, urging collective responsibility and effective governance

Salihu Mohammed Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on the party’s top leadership to address the apparent rift between former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai and the incumbent governor, Ubah Sani.

During a town hall meeting in Kaduna, Governor Sani recently revealed that his administration inherited a substantial debt burden from El-Rufai’s government, which has hampered the payment of workers’ salaries.

In response to the governor’s claims, El-Rufai’s son, Bashir, indirectly criticized the governor, alleging an attempt to mask the current administration’s shortcomings.

Lukman, a former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, expressed concern over the escalating tension between El-Rufai and Sani, noting that their friendship has soured since the transition of power.

He drew parallels to past political conflicts within the party and urged proactive intervention by APC leaders to prevent further escalation. Lukman emphasized the need for the party to fulfill its progressive ideals by actively mediating disputes and bolstering governance capacity in APC-led states.

Highlighting similar challenges in other APC states such as Benue, Ebonyi, and Cross River, Lukman urged the party leadership to be more proactive in resolving internal conflicts and strengthening governance structures.

Lukman called on all APC members in Kaduna to acknowledge their collective responsibility for the state’s challenges and encouraged Governor Sani to conduct a thorough assessment of the state’s debt profile to effectively address the issue.
