The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has affirmed its commitment to mitigating the potential impact of flooding in Nigeria as the 2024 rainy season looms.

This will involve employing early warning alerts aligned with Seasonal Climate Predictions and conducting public awareness campaigns on preventive measures against floods and related risks.

During a courtesy visit by the Head of Office, Nigeria, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, NEMA Director General, Zubaida Umar, reiterated the agency’s dedication to this cause. She emphasized that preparations are underway to address the looming challenges posed by the upcoming rainy season across the nation.

She said, “NEMA is putting in place modalities to mitigate impacts of flooding across Nigeria through the development of early warning alerts in line with the Seasonal Climate Prediction and public sensitisation on precautionary measures to avert the impacts of floods and associated hazards.
