  • The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped two spots in the latest FIFA ranking following a series of mixed results
  • Despite the slip, Nigeria maintains its position as the third-highest ranked team in Africa, trailing behind Morocco and Senegal

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have slipped two places in the latest FIFA men’s ranking, released yesterday.

In the February ranking, the Super Eagles were ranked 28th globally. Still, following a series of mixed results in last month’s international break, they now find themselves in the 30th position.

This change comes after the team’s notable performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they surged up the rankings by 14 places. Before the AFCON, Nigeria held a respectable 42nd position globally.

However, their recent matches saw them defeat Ghana 2-1 in Finidi George’s debut game as interim manager, followed by a 2-0 loss to the Eagles of Mali a few days later.

Despite the slight drop in the rankings, Nigeria maintains its position as the third-highest-ranked team in Africa, trailing behind Morocco (13th) and Senegal (17th). Egypt (37th), Cote d’Ivoire (38th), and Tunisia (41st) complete the top five on the African continent.

At the global level, Argentina retains its status as the top-ranked nation, with France, Belgium, England, and Brazil following closely behind. Portugal, The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Croatia complete the top ten.

The next FIFA ranking update will be released after the international break in June.
