  • Despite discussions with Napoli, Chelsea is cautious about spending on Osimhen due to concerns about Financial Fair Play penalties
  • Negotiations with Napoli for Osimhen’s services depend on Chelsea’s willingness to meet his release clause without overspending

Chelsea have initiated discussions with Napoli and Victor Osimhen’s representatives to secure the striker’s services, but they are cautious about overspending to avoid Financial Fair Play (FFP) penalties.

The upcoming meeting aims to clarify Chelsea’s willingness to meet Osimhen’s release clause, amidst reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite their ambitious spending last summer, Chelsea is mindful of potential FFP repercussions. Experts like Stefan Borson warn of severe sanctions similar to those faced by Nottingham Forest and Everton.

Osimhen, renowned as one of Serie A’s most prolific forwards, is currently valued between €120m-€130m by Napoli.

Italian publication Il Mattino suggests Chelsea remains a contender in the pursuit of Osimhen. However, negotiations hinge on Napoli’s flexibility, a prospect complicated by the reputation of Napoli’s president, De Laurentiis, for tough bargaining.

“I think Chelsea is still in the race,” Il Mattino affirmed. “It is really important to understand what is happening, first of all with the FFP situation, because Chelsea do not want to overpay. So, it is important to know how much the package is going to be for Osimhen.”

Osimhen’s impressive record of 12 goals and three assists in 19 appearances underscores his significance to Napoli, particularly in their recent Serie A triumph.

The 25-year-old recently penned a lucrative contract worth £210,000-per-week, featuring the aforementioned release clause.
