FRSC: Auto Crash Claimed 19 Lives In Oyo-Ogbomoso Road

  • FRSC says the road crash occurred at about 07:45 a.m. was due to route violation, referred to in local parlance as ‘One Way’.
  • The FRSC corps marshal had directed sector commanders to step up patrol operations to tackle the menace of route violation on the nation’s highways.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says not less than 19 persons lost their lives in an auto crash that occurred on the Oyo-Ogbomoso road on Sunday.

Jonas Agwu, the corps’ public education officer, confirmed in a statement that 19 out of 20 persons involved in the crash died.

The fatal crash was said to have been caused by a driver who drove against traffic, causing a head-on collision between a Toyota Hiace Bus registered as NTT52ZY and a Toyota Corolla salon car.

He said that the crash in local parlance is described as ‘One Way’

“Of this number, 19 persons were killed , while the only surviving victim was rescued by FRSC operatives with injuries,” the statement said.

“FRSC rescue team that conducted the rescue operations have taken the injured victim to Opabode hospital in Oyo, for emergency medical attention.

“The dead bodies have been deposited at Oyo General Hospital morgue.”

Agwu, however said that Dauda Ali Biu, FRSC corps marshal, had directed sector commanders to step up patrol operations to tackle the menace of route violation on the nation’s highways.
