  • Speaking on Monday in Ibadan, Mr Oyelade said there were peaceful and better ways to agitate for self-determination than violence and bloodshed

The Oyo State Government has described as an act of terrorism the invasion of its secret by rampaging armed self-acclaimed Yoruba Nation agitators.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, decried the Saturday’s invasion of the state secretariat saying it was a vicious attempt to upend the peace enjoyed in the State.

Speaking on Monday in Ibadan, Mr Oyelade said there were peaceful and better ways to agitate for self-determination than violence and bloodshed.

“Attempting to barge into the hallowed chambers of the legislature and take it over with an arsenal of seven pump action submachine guns, over 700 live cartridges, is clearly an act of terrorism,” he said.

The commissioner asked the insurrectionists to emulate the conduct of Banji Akintoye, a well-known Yoruba Nation agitator, as representing the quintessential wisdom and civilisation of the Yoruba race.

The commissioner disclosed that sponsors of Saturday’s invasion of the governor’s office and the state House of Assembly have succeeded in putting the arrested suspects into serious trouble.

He reiterated that Oyo State remains the most peaceful state in Nigeria, adding that the incident has not changed the serenity and peaceful atmosphere in the state.

Mr Oyelade said normalcy has since returned to Ibadan, the state capital, and residents are doing their normal duties.

A group of armed self-acclaimed Yoruba Nation agitators allegedly invaded the Oyo State government secretariat on Saturday in an attempt to take it over.

However, security operatives thwarted their attempt, and 20 in military uniforms were arrested
