  • Federal government’s citizens’ delivery tracker to assess ministers’ performance using empirical data, not general opinions but evidence-supported data
  • Tracker emphasizes specific-based assessment, employing a data-driven approach to evaluate ministers’ performance, focusing on tangible achievements like crude oil production

Hadiza Bala-Usman, President Bola Tinubu’s special adviser on policy coordination, has disclosed that the federal government’s citizens’ delivery tracker will employ empirical data to assess ministers’ performance.

During a live programme titled Hard Facts on Nigerian Info 99.3FM radio, Bala-Usman clarified the mechanism behind the tracker’s efficiency. She emphasized that the assessment isn’t based on general opinions but on data-supported evidence.

“It’s not a popularity contest; it’s specific-based. The data will speak for itself, such as the increased crude oil production or the number of passports issued. We’re adopting a data-driven approach to evaluate ministers’ performance,” she explained.

Addressing concerns about insecurity, Bala-Usman highlighted it as the President’s second priority after economic reform. She affirmed President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to tackling this issue head-on.

In response to a caller’s scepticism regarding trust in the tracker, particularly in light of alleged revelations about the Nigeria Customs Service, Bala-Usman mentioned establishing a panel to investigate such allegations.

“A panel has been convened to address these allegations, and the Customs Service is actively engaging with it,” she stated.

Oriyomi Anthony, a development expert, praised Tinubu’s administration for launching the tracker and expressed optimism about its potential impact. He noted that while doubts lingered initially, the initiative signalled a serious commitment to governance and collaboration with the private sector.

“I see a government that’s adopting a private sector mindset, which instils confidence that government affairs will be handled more efficiently,” Anthony remarked, highlighting the potential for a positive change under Tinubu’s leadership.
