The Nigerian Army has announced plans to construct suitable personal homes for soldiers combating various forms of insecurity across the country, serving as residences after retirement.

Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, disclosed this on Tuesday at the opening of the First Quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference 2024 in Abuja.

Lagbaja outlined several welfare initiatives to enhance troops’ morale and well-being. Among these is the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS), designed to address the challenge soldiers face in securing accommodation post-retirement.

Under AHOOAS, the Army plans to allocate five percent of housing units in each estate to soldiers with operational-related disabilities, ensuring inclusivity and sensitivity to their needs. Furthermore, the Army will cover all housing expenses at 100 percent for these soldiers.
