  • The anti-corruption agency had on Thursday put out a notice declaring the embattled governor wanted and appealed to those with vital information about the former Kogi governor’s whereabouts to contact the commission

Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu, has admonished former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to turn himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Onanuga’s admonition is coming amid EFCC declaration of Bello wanted for an alleged financial crime to the tune of N80.2 billion.

The anti-corruption agency had on Thursday put out a notice declaring the embattled governor wanted and appealed to those with vital information about the former Kogi governor’s whereabouts to contact the commission or the police.

The EFCC on Wednesday stormed the Abuja residence of the former governor to arrest him but he evaded arrest after the incumbent governor of Kogi State aided his escape by whisking him away in his official vehicle.

The former governor was on Thursday absent at the Federal High Court in Abuja for a suit instituted against him by the EFCC.

The anti-graft agency subsequently disclosed that it might have to involve the military to arrest Bello.

However, in a post on his X handle, Onanuga said Bello advised Bello to the EFCC and get a good lawyer.

He said: “Yahaya Bello, where will you run to? It’s better you submit yourself to the EFCC and get a good lawyer.”
