  • Ambassador Musa Nuhu advocates collective approach to African security threats, emphasizing unified action and joint consultations between AU and RECs
  • He proposes extending dialogue beyond political and security matters to include economic development, humanitarian intervention, and social cohesion

Ambassador Musa Nuhu, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS and Chair of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council, has emphasized the need for a collective approach to address security threats in Africa.

Speaking at a joint consultation meeting between the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) and the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council (MSC) in Abuja, Amb Nuhu highlighted the dynamic nature of security challenges in Africa, ranging from terrorism to unconstitutional changes of government.

He stressed the importance of unified action transcending national boundaries and involving collective efforts to tackle these challenges effectively.

Ambassador Nuhu underscored the significance of joint consultations between the AU and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in forging a collective response to mitigate security threats. He emphasized the need to align strategies and actions between the AU PSC and ECOWAS MSC to foster a deeper understanding of regional security dynamics.

Furthermore, he proposed that the dialogue between the AU and RECs extend beyond discussions on political affairs and security to include economic development, humanitarian intervention, social cohesion, and infrastructural development. These, he suggested, are essential components for promoting good governance and ensuring a peaceful and stable Africa.

Ambassador Nuhu’s remarks reflect Nigeria’s commitment to promoting peace, security, and stability in Africa through collaborative efforts at both continental and regional levels.
