  • Peter Obi denies accusations by Minister Umahi, refuting claims of incitement against federal government regarding Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project
  • Umahi alleged Obi incited individuals from South East against government, responding to Obi’s criticism of project under President Tinubu’s administration

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the previous election, has refuted accusations made by Minister of Works, Engr Dave Umahi, regarding the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

Umahi had alleged that Obi incited some individuals from the Southeast to attack the federal government regarding the highway project in response to Obi’s criticism of the project under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Obi had stated that the project, initiated by Tinubu, was detrimental to employment and negatively impacted investments, citing the adverse effects on the Landmark Beach Resort, valued at $200 million.

In his defence, Umahi pointed out similar actions allegedly taken by Obi during his tenure as Anambra State governor, claiming that Obi failed to compensate affected individuals.

However, in a statement on Thursday via his official handle, Obi indirectly addressed Umahi’s remarks, denying allegations of demolishing existing roads and disrupting ongoing businesses while serving as governor.

Obi defended his actions as governor, stating that he focused on prioritizing repairing and maintaining existing infrastructure over projects that posed risks of disruption and destruction.

Furthermore, he disputed the accusation of incitement against President Tinubu’s government, asserting that such claims were intended to tarnish his reputation.
