  • Rep. Dominic Okafor vehemently denies accepting a $140 million bribe from Binance, expressing intent to pursue legal action
  • Okafor refutes the bribery allegations, emphasizing the timing as suspicious, following his motion to investigate the escape of a Binance executive

Rep. Dominic Okafor, representing Aguata Federal Constituency of Anambra State, has vehemently denied allegations of accepting a $140 million bribe from Binance, an online cryptocurrency trading platform. Addressing journalists at the House of Representatives, Okafor expressed his intention to pursue legal action against the media outlet responsible for the report tarnishing his reputation.

The allegation surfaced following Okafor’s motion to investigate the escape of Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla from Nigerian security custody. Okafor asserted that the timing of the bribery allegations, shortly after moving the motion, suggested a deliberate attempt to smear his name and integrity.

In response to the report, Okafor promptly wrote a letter to Premium Times, the media outlet behind the story, demanding the retraction of the false information within 24 hours. He further copied the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Clerk, Inspector General of Police, EFCC, and DSS, underscoring the seriousness of the matter.

The bribery allegations surfaced after a Binance executive accused members of a federal government committee of corruption. However, Okafor refuted these claims, emphasizing his commitment to upholding integrity and accountability in public service.
