Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has covered the registration expenses for 1,740 newly enrolled students at the Saadatu Rimi University of Education, Kumbotso, a state-owned institution.

Speaking during the university’s inaugural matriculation ceremony on Saturday, Mr. Yusuf highlighted the National Universities Commission’s approval in 2023 to elevate Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education in Kumbotso to a university of education.

He emphasized the state government’s unwavering dedication to supporting students’ educational pursuits, irrespective of their political affiliations.

Furthermore, he noted that the state government has allocated 30 percent of its 2024 budget to education, marking a significant increase from previous allocations.

Ibrahim Kofarmata, the state Commissioner for Higher Education, elaborated that the government has also waived 50 percent of school fees for students in state secondary and tertiary institutions, aiming to enhance accessibility to education for underprivileged children.

The vice chancellor of the university, Yahaya Isa Bunkure, commended Mr Yusuf’s dedication to education and highlighted the university’s achievements, including staff development programmes, research initiatives, and infrastructure upgrades.

Mr Bunkure encouraged the matriculating students to approach their studies with diligence and determination, recognising the significance of their time at the university.

Mr Bunkure also received a fellowship award from the Nigerian Institute of Physics (FNIP) for his contributions to the field of Physics and his commitment to research and education.
