  • President Tinubu mandates government agencies to procure CNG-powered vehicles exclusively, emphasizing Nigeria’s commitment to cleaner energy sources
  • Minister of Finance Wale Edun’s visit to a CNG vehicle manufacturing facility highlights the government’s dedication to transitioning to cleaner energy

President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive mandating that all government ministries, departments, and agencies exclusively procure compressed natural gas (CNG) powered vehicles.

Tinubu emphasized that this directive aligns with the nation’s commitment to transitioning towards cleaner energy sources. CNG vehicles are recognized for emitting lower levels of pollutants and offering a more cost-effective option for energy consumers in Nigeria.

The recent tour by the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to a CNG vehicle manufacturing facility underscored the government’s commitment to this transition. Edun assured that these vehicles would soon be available for deployment, with their benefits accessible to all Nigerians.

At the State House during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to energy reforms. He stressed the imperative of ensuring energy security, enhancing utility services, and reducing the financial burden of fuel costs.

Tinubu declared, “Our nation cannot advance if we persist in outdated practices. We are relentless in driving nationwide adoption of CNG. As public officials, it is incumbent upon us to lead by example in embracing this transition for the prosperity of our people.”

Additionally, Tinubu instructed rejecting all proposals for traditional petrol-dependent vehicles within the FEC. He urged council members to seek value-driven procurement of CNG-compliant vehicles instead diligently.

Assuring continued commitment to harnessing the nation’s gas potential, Tinubu pledged to alleviate transportation costs for the masses while improving Nigeria’s overall standard of living.
