  • APC stakeholders in Ekiti criticize Governor Oyebanji’s appointments favouring opposition figures, especially associates of former Governor Fayose
  • Despite contributions to APC’s success, appointments allegedly go to PDP members, raising concerns about division within the party

A group of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Ekiti State voiced their discontent yesterday over Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s recent appointments, which they claim have favoured opposition figures, particularly associates of former Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The stakeholders expressed disappointment regarding allocating various slots to individuals allegedly linked to Fayose’s political circle, including appointments as special advisers (SAs) and senior special assistants (SSAs), among other positions.

Despite their significant contributions to the party’s success in the recent governorship elections, the group observed a trend of appointments being offered to known members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), raising concerns about potential division within the APC.

In a statement released to the press in Ado Ekiti yesterday, Prince Aderobaki Adeleye, the convener of the stakeholders’ group, described the governor’s actions as unacceptable and cautioned that they could sow discord within the party.

“We therefore urge the national leadership of our party to intervene and prompt Governor Oyebanji to rectify these perceived missteps for the collective interest and unity of our party members,” he asserted.

However, Segun Dipe, the APC’s State Publicity Secretary, dismissed the stakeholders’ allegations, labelling them baseless and malicious.

Dipe emphasized that the governor consults with the party before making any appointments, emphasizing Oyebanji’s commitment to inclusivity by involving former governors in his administration, regardless of their political affiliations.
