The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has raised concerns over reports alleging that Rano Airline discriminated against Alhaji Usman Bura Gabai, the State Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, at Maiduguri Airport in Borno State.
In a statement released Wednesday by Saleh Faruq Gagarawa, Head of New Media at NCPWD, the Commission emphasized its strong stance against discrimination. The statement read, “The NCPWD takes any allegations of discrimination seriously and is committed to upholding the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. Discrimination is unacceptable and goes against the principles of inclusivity and equality we strive to promote.”
The NCPWD announced that it had launched a thorough investigation into the incident to gather all necessary evidence and ensure a fair and transparent process. The statement urged all parties involved to cooperate with the investigation to reach a full resolution. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that the rights of persons with disabilities are upheld,” the statement added.
Additionally, the NCPWD called on all airlines and transportation providers to respect the rights of persons with disabilities and ensure equal access to their services. “We must work together to create a society that is inclusive and welcoming to all individuals, regardless of their abilities,” the Commission stated.
The NCPWD assured the public that it would provide updates on the investigation’s progress and any developments in the case. The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusivity and combating discrimination against persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
