Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, (SAN), Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) Commission, has reiterated the agency’s commitment to collaborating with the British high commission to combat visa racketeering in Nigeria.
Aliyu said this during a meeting with Mr. Coran Oakley, the International liaison manager of the home office international operations in the British high commission, Abuja
The ICPC boss acknowledged the existing working relationship between the two organizations and promised to prioritize the collaboration under his leadership.
He emphasized the challenges of tackling corruption, particularly in the issuance of visas, and expressed the commission’s readiness to work with the high commission to apprehend and prosecute criminals involved in visa racketeering.
The ICPC chairman assured Oakley that the Commission would ensure that staff with the necessary capacity and integrity are assigned to this critical task.
He also expressed his willingness to explore further avenues for collaboration in other areas of mutual benefit.
Oakley, in his remarks, sought to strengthen the collaboration between the two organizations, which began several years ago.
He emphasized the need for a long-term partnership to combat organized immigration crime elements behind visa scams, making it harder for criminals to target innocent Nigerians and easier for citizens to obtain British visas.
Oakley requested trained and specially tasked officers to investigate British visa fraud cases, which may involve other countries like Germany, France, and Canada, as they face similar challenges.
