Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to uphold religious freedom and has called on religious leaders to foster interfaith harmony.

Inaugurating the Board of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, the vice president emphasized the significance of faith in the nation, stating that it provides a framework for citizens’ comfort and the nation’s stability.

VP Shettima asserted that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diverse faiths and assured there will be no discrimination under the Tinubu-led government. He emphasized the government’s responsibility to ensure a safe environment for individuals of all faiths, upholding their rights and freedoms as enshrined in the Constitution.

Highlighting the NCPC’s role in facilitating pilgrimages for Nigerian Christians, the VP described it as a sacred tradition that must be prioritized. He urged the new NCPC board members to promote interfaith harmony through compassion, justice, and mutual respect.

VP Shettima recalled President Tinubu’s commitment to a government free from discrimination and assured that the administration is dedicated to ensuring interfaith harmony remains a top priority.

In his remarks, the newly appointed chairman of the NCPC board, Rev. Cletus Gotan, expressed gratitude to the president for supporting pilgrimage journeys that contribute to the spiritual upliftment of citizens. He pledged the board’s commitment to improving pilgrimage services and ensuring prayers for the government, families, and people during pilgrimages.
