In a bid to rescue him, people who were at the scene of the accident dashed towards his direction and rushed him to a hospital.

A source, who spoke in confidence with newsmen, said the driver of the truck who was moving at top speed did not wait, adding that when the LAWMA official was rushed to the hospital, a doctor on duty confirmed him dead.

The source said, “The truck driver did not wait; some people said he knew what happened while some other persons said he might not know what happened because the truck was still moving on other tyres.

“When people in the area rushed him to hospital, they confirmed that he died due to the injuries he sustained from the accident.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident

He disclosed that Ogunmakin was rushed to the Randle Hospital in the Surulere area of the state.

He explained that the doctor on duty confirmed him dead, adding that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing driver of the truck.

Hundeyin said, “The incident happened on May 27, 2024, around 10.24 pm, at Alaka, inward the National Stadium. It involved an unknown truck driven by a driver and our investigation revealed that two tyres of an unknown truck pulled out suddenly in motion and hit a 61-year-old man, Olalekan Ogunmakin, attached to the LAWMA office, Ijora.

“The man sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Randle Hospital, Surulere, Lagos, for treatment. He died and this was confirmed by the doctors on duty. The corpse was deposited at the same hospital for preservation and an investigation is ongoing for the arrest of the truck driver.”
