  • The warning is coming amid the ongoing nationwide strike embarked upon by the Labour Union in the West Africa nation.

British citizens intending to visit Nigeria have been warned to be cautious, detailed and meticulous in their travel plans.

The warning is coming amid the ongoing nationwide strike embarked upon by the Labour Union in the West Africa nation.

The United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issued the travel warning in a advisory on Monday.

The FCDO admonished intending travellers to check with their airline or agent before embarking on the trip as airports including both local and international terminals were shut down across the country on Monday.

“The Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria have commenced a nationwide strike affecting public services across Nigeria,” the FCDO advisory said. “This includes disruptions at all Nigerian airports, including international terminals,” it added.

“You are advised to check with your airline or agent before travelling and make alternative arrangements where required.”

Economic activities, including airports and national grid, were crippled on Monday as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) commenced an indefinite strike after failure to reach an agreement with the federal government over a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

Meanwhile, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, alongside other government officials, are currently in an closed door emergency meeting with the leadership of both NLC and TUC regarding the ongoing strike as at the time of filing this report
