- Garo stated that many gardens and parks in Kano have been taken over by businesses
The Kano State Government has issued a quit notice to all businesses occupying parks and gardens that were originally designated as relaxation spots but have been converted to business places.
This order was given by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Nasiru Sule-Garo, during the marking of the 2024 World Environment Day on Wednesday.
Garo stated that many gardens and parks in Kano have been taken over by businesses. The government is determined to re-establish these spaces as befitting public parks to serve as relaxation spots and “Oxygen bags.”
He highlighted that the public garden opposite Abdullahi Waste Hospital and another one on Audu Bako Way had been converted into business premises, contrary to their original purpose.
As part of its tree-planting campaign to mitigate climate change, the government plans to plant three million seedlings in collaboration with ACReSaL and other stakeholders, according to Garo.
Additionally, the ministry has undertaken the clearance of drainages, erosion control measures, and mosquito and pest control operations across the 44 local government areas, including boarding Tsangaya and Islamiyya schools.
