The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has announced the federal government’s prohibition of lodging underage girls in hotels across the country. This directive, she declared in Abuja on Saturday during the graduation and grant ceremony of participants in the ‘Unlock training programme’ organized by Madam Abiola Arogundade, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education.

Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that the ban would take effect on June 20, 2024. She also cautioned hospitals against refusing emergency cases within their capacity, affirming the government’s commitment to addressing such issues.

Addressing the attendees, the minister referenced a circulating video involving Nigerian girls taken to Ghana, indicating forthcoming action. She reiterated, “From the 20th, all hotels must refrain from lodging underage girls. No more bullying. Similarly, hospitals must cease rejecting emergency cases.”

Kennedy-Ohanenye urged Nigerians to leverage social media to address these issues collectively. She emphasized the importance of unity, stating, “This fight is not for one person alone; it is for all of us.”
