  • The 2025 AFCON qualifying draw will occur in Johannesburg, with 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four
  • Morocco, as hosts, automatically qualify, meaning only one additional team from their group will advance to the finals

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying draw will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on July 4.

A total of 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the finals in Morocco. Although Morocco, the tournament host, will be part of the draw, their qualifications have already been secured. Therefore, only one additional team from their group will earn a spot in the finals.

CAF has yet to announce the exact dates for the 2025 AFCON tournament. However, the qualifying matches are scheduled for September, October, and November. The Super Eagles of Nigeria will compete against other teams in these qualifiers.

Liberia, Chad, South Sudan, and Eswatini successfully navigated a preliminary round to join the 44 highest-ranked African nations in the group stage draw.
